PATENTED PRODUCT Dry Eye Disease is a very frequent pathology among the general population with an increasing incidence among the Italian and Western populations. This occurs due to a series of risk factors as well as demographics: general aging of the population, excessive use of video terminals (both PCs, mobile phones and tablets), improvement of diagnostic techniques, greater exposure to risk factors and triggers such as pollution or others. For dry eye therapy, the ophthalmologist approach with a series of products mainly with moisturizing and lubricating properties to make the symptoms disappear, which is often very painful for the patient. Among the most important therapeutic needs sought by the clinician, it is the permanence of the moisturizing and lubricating effect of the products for as long as possible and the resolution of the patient's symptoms. Lacrinova is a new original and patented eye drop that covers these important patient needs. The therapeutic basis of Lacrinova consists of an absolute novelty in ophthalmology, origin of the patent, called Ribohyal® which arises from the union of Vitamin B2 (or Riboflavin) with hyaluronic acid. The resulting molecule, Ribohyal® in fact, has innovative characteristics that allow it to be successfully used in ophthalmology. Into the dispenser Lacrinova behaves like a liquid and is administered to the patient as such. While Lacrinova take contact with the eye and its mucous membranes, it becomes a thin gel with peculiar characteristics: it does not cloud the vision which remains clear from the very first moments after the administration; as a gel it remains adhered to the surface of the eye (cornea) for longer, enhancing a more intense and prolonged hydration of the organ. Due to these characteristics, Lacrinova is suitable for dry eyes with more important symptoms, such as in moderate and severe cases, as well as being very useful for night-time administration due to the permanence of the effect. A further advantage of the product is the need, while administered during the day, for a smaller number of administrations due to the permanence of hydration and lubrication. Finally, Lacrinova has been shown, in an important clinical study, to protect the eye from exposure to light. The last feature of the product is its hypotonicity which allows the patient to clearly perceive an immediate sensation of freshness and relief from the symptoms.
